Canon Point: post-movie
Age: 32

Personality: Poe Dameron is called the best pilot in the Resistance. He makes split-second tactical decisions that rely on quick reflexes and an unwavering nerve. Enemies are in his sights and must be handled in the blink of an eye, and he gives his all to completing every mission. He has no time to doubt himself.
These traits make him an excellent pilot and a proud soldier.
His loyalty to the Resistance is unwavering, choosing to sign up with them to fight the First Order rather than remaining with the Republic, who, he felt, continued to ignore the emerging threat. He is also loyal to the individuals under his command. While still with the Republic, once he had decided to defy orders and pursue an investigation into the First Order taking of a ship, he ordered his squad to stay behind so they wouldn't face official sanctions. After having been tortured by information by the First Order while on a mission for the Resistance, he refuses to abandon his mission, choosing to head back to the planet he was captured on rather than running while he had the chance. Shortly after this, he is back in his ship, flying and fighting for the Resistance, risking his life all over again without ever questioning the wisdom of it.
Poe chooses his course of action quickly and follows through without hesitation. Rather than fleeing the First Order forces on Jakku, Poe attempts to help the village they attacked because of his presence fight them off. When back with the Resistance and attempting to destroy the First Order's base of operations, it is Poe who chooses to fly into the heart of the planet and shoot out the power cores that stabilize its weapon capabilities. He is able to fearlessly take his ship to great heights, plunge to nearly even with a planet, and otherwise outmove an enemy simply by pushing his equipment to the limit and being ready to take every opportunity.
However, these traits also make Poe vulnerable outside of his ship.
After having been tortured by the First Order, Poe chooses to return to Jakku without giving himself any time to heal, and he also drags Finn (who deserted the First Order forces and freed Poe to help him get off their ship by stealing a smaller ship) back with him, despite Finn's pleas that he wants to escape. Poe does apologize, but he explains to Finn that his mission is bigger than both of them and worth both their lives and more.
Poe also shows a considerable lack of impulse control, likely from the very need of quick reactions that make him a great pilot. He thinks of something, and he does it. While part of the Republic, he is told to drop the matter of the taking of a Republic ship by the First Order, but Poe risks a court martial to satisfy his own curiosity the first chance he gets. When faced with Kylo Ren, a masked man in black with a lightsaber, Poe mouths off to him and makes a sexual innuendo to a stormtrooper, likely met to rattle the man who had just been searching him. Both of these things prompt a more violent response from the two men than might otherwise have been had. Even while being tortured, he remains outspokenly defiant.
Outside of the goods and evils of being a pilot, Poe is ultimately a people person. He values his original squad -- two of the three having been able to come with him from the Republic to the Resistance, with the third having been killed -- highly, but he also takes pride in those who he only met upon joining the Resistance. When one of them is beseiged by enemies during the Resistance's attack on the First Order's base, he instructs her to pull up to give him a clear shot at them. When she tells me she owes him, his reply is "You owe me another bombing run," essentially waving off her thanks. The clearest example, however, is with Finn: Finn is a former Stormtrooper, who decided to leave the First Order but couldn't fly a ship. He rescued Poe in order to steal a ship and revealed that he had no name, only a designation -- FN-2987. Poe decided immediately he wouldn't use that and, instead, named him 'Finn.' After crashing on Jakku, Poe and Finn are separated. The next time they see each other, Poe, knowing only that Finn completed the mission he couldn't, is quick to embrace Finn, and he promises to help him in any way he can, as Finn's friend Rey is now a prisoner of the First Order.
Poe is impulsive, stubborn, fiercely loyal, and inclined to like people. Many of these traits make him an excellent pilot but also give him the appearance of carelessness outside of his ship. Which side of them -- positive or negative -- that shows depends heavily on the situation, but, for better or worse, Poe always gives his all.
Abilities/Skills: Poe's greatest skill is his piloting ability. He is referred to as the "best pilot in the Resistance," and he demonstrates a worthiness of this designation more than once. Even behind the controls of a vehicle he's never used before, Poe quickly becomes formidable at handling it.
Poe also has a passing familiarity with the use of firearms, though it is only in a basic sense.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: Multitasker, dedicated, quick reaction time, charismatic, exceptional pilot
Weaknesses: Impulsive, risk taker, disregard for orders if they conflict with his ideas
Items: Resistance pilot flight suit

[He's trying to not be annoyed. But it's been awhile since he's really gotten time to himself. Time to fly. So, he's a little antsy. Working gives him something to do, at least.]
It's got a 'P' and 'D' on it with tape. I've been using it on the forward starboard engine room for the last five days. It has consitently been left by the cooling vent just outside the room.
Now, it's missing.
I just want to keep working on the auxillary engine's vent, so -- I need it back. Leave it outside my room. I won't ask any questions as long as it's returned.
